The Coos Bay-North Bend Water Board is replacing a water main on S. Empire Blvd. from Newmark Avenue to Wisconsin Avenue.  The Water Board’s contractor, Knife River Materials, is performing the work.  The project is an important infrastructure improvement that precedes the City of Coos Bay’s street enhancement project planned for spring 2016.

A critical connection to the new water main will be made at the S. Empire Blvd/Wisconsin Avenue intersection during the night of Sunday, October 11 beginning at 9:00 p.m. and lasting until 2:00 a.m. the following morning.  The connection will interrupt water service to only a few homes along the 800 block of S. Marple Avenue only.

Water supply to the Barview and Charleston areas will be limited during this time period, and Water Board customers in Barview and Charleston are asked to conserve water as much as possible.  In addition, some minor discoloration of the water may be noticeable during this time period.  Any discoloration should be temporary and can be briefly flushed through house faucets.  Concerns about water quality or questions can be directed to the Water Board at 541-267-3128.

One-way traffic flow on S. Empire Blvd. between Fulton Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue will be controlled by flaggers.  Motorists are asked to reduce speeds and use caution through the construction area.

All work on the Water Board project is anticipated to be complete by Friday, October 16.
