News: Water Board meets EPA service line compliance deadline

Coos Bay-North Bend Water Board meets EPA service line compliance deadline. Regulators classify all water service lines as non-lead.

This is excellent news for Water Board customers and our community's water system!!

In 2021, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) adopted revisions to the National Lead and Copper Rule. These revisions included a new requirement for public water systems to conduct service line inventories and identify all service line material types by October 16, 2024. The service line inventory requirement intends to identify lead-containing service lines so they can be scheduled for removal and replacement. The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) received and accepted the Coos Bay-North Bend Water Board’s service line inventory on October 3, 2024.

The Water Board conducted our service line inventory program using the OHA statistical guidance method. Based on those results, OHA determined that all service lines within our water system are considered non-lead.

The EPA plans to revise the Lead and Copper Rule for service lines again soon. While we do not know precisely what those revisions will be, the Water Board will continue to work with our regulators at the EPA and OHA by staying committed to meeting and exceeding all regulations in providing safe, clean, and reliable drinking water to all our customers and the community.

If you have questions about the Water Board’s service line inventory or would like to review it, you can visit the Water Board Service Center at 2305 Ocean Blvd, Coos Bay, or call (541) 267-3128 to make an appointment.
